Golf pros return in support of Surrey Memorial Hospital
Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation is grateful to again be the charity of choice during this year’s Greater Vancouver Charity Classic, held June 16th to the 22nd at Hazelmere Golf Club in Surrey.
With the support of the RBC Financial Group, proceeds from the Greater Vancouver Charity Classic will go towards the Foundation’s Emergency Centre Campaign. “We are honoured to be a part of the Greater Vancouver Charity Classic for a second consecutive year,” says Foundation President/CEO Jane Adams. “I encourage everyone to stop by Hazelmere to watch this excellent tournament.”
The Greater Vancouver Charity Classic is a not-for-profit golf tournament hosted by the Canadian Tour and the West Coast Golf group. Official World Golf Ranking points are awarded to the top six finishers at the event.
The Canadian Tour has been the proving ground for many current PGA Tour Stars. Players such as Chris Dimarco, Stuart Appleby, Michael Campbell, and Canada’s own Mike Weir all had their start on the Canadian Tour.
Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. – the busiest in B.C. - was originally designed to handle about 44,000 visits a year but has instead been seeing close to 70,000 patients a year.
The new Emergency Centre, at triple the size of the current facility, will include a separate children’s E.R., as well as a separate mental health and addictions area, an enhanced minor treatment unit, and an improved area for acute patients.
The B.C. government has committed to funding the essentials of a replacement to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s current E.R. The Foundation’s $15-million campaign will ensure the new Emergency Centre is state-of-the-art.
