Family creates bursary in memory of SMH’s first cardiology nurse practitioner
Surrey, B.C. – An annual bursary has been created in memory of Surrey Memorial Hospital’s first cardiology nurse practitioner.
The Terina Werry Excellence in Critical Care Nursing Bursary is being offered by the family of the late Terina Werry through a donation to Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Nurse practitioners are health care providers with a Masters Degree and additional training that allows them to diagnose and manage certain medical conditions as well as provide a broad range of health services.
“As our first cardiology nurse practitioner, Terina made significant contributions to Surrey Memorial Hospital’s Cardiology Program,” says Pamela McElheran, the hospital’s director of acute services. “She is greatly missed by our team, and we are very grateful to her family for creating this bursary in her honour.”
A bursary of $800 will be awarded each year to a nurse who has made a contribution to critical care nursing and/or the Cardiology/Critical Care programs at Surrey Memorial Hospital. The funds will be used to further the recipient’s education and professional development.
Application forms and guidelines can be obtained from the hospital’s Critical Care program office.
“Learning is a life-long pursuit, and Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation is blessed with a number of donors – including the thoughtful contribution of the Werry family - who are supporting educational opportunities,” says Foundation chair Jacy Wingson.
Established in 1992, Surrey Memorial Hospital Foundation has raised more than $50 million to purchase medical equipment, fund innovative programs, and support training and research.
